RANKING OF WORLD UNIVERSITIES

All rankings of the universities in the world reflect the stark reality that India that prides itself being home to the largest number of English speakers in Asia is behind other native language countries in every ranking. The performance of fellow Anglophone countries that continue to deny knowledge to people in native languages is far worse.The universities and colleges in anglophone south Asian countries and Philippines are ranked lower than the universities ind colleges in native language Asian countries. The quality of education in the universities that taught in English in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are abysmal compared to universities that taught in Chinese, Thai, and Korean. Vietnam and Indonesian are fast surging ahead.



 

# 8th Rank at the national level, * 19th at the national level

          The Times Higher Education ranking also evaluates the national ranking of the higher education system. It reveals that access to quality education in India is worse in Asia. It is ranked at the bottom of all assessed countries. Philippines that top the TOEFL score in East Asia has the worse ranking behind all East Asian countries. Malaysia has lost the race to Taiwan and South Korea that have gone far ahead. While lakhs of students are studying at the best universities in native language countries only a few thousand could do so in India and hence it is bottom of the world in Access Ranking.

*        None of the Medical colleges that teach in English in south Asia is ranked higher than medical colleges in Thailand that teach in Thai language. Indian universities are far behind even those in the most backward Indonesia that teach in Indonesian language. Chulalongkorn University that teach Medicine in Thai language is ranked higher than any of the medical colleges or universities in India. Almost all premier Chinese and Korean universities are better than all universities in India.

*        The technological institutes of India cannot match in quality with the large universities of the east. All the Indian Institutes of technology (IITs) that enrol few thousand bright students in India are ranked poorly compared to premier Chinese universities that deal with lakhs of students. The medium of instruction at Peking University and Tsinghua University is Chinese language. They are ranked higher than all IITs that teach in English. All instruction is in Korean language and students prepare their notes and theses in Korean language at the top ranked Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST).

*        Except the top premier institutes such as IITs, all the big Indian universities are ranked at the bottom of the evaluation table. The next good universities of India after Delhi University such as the universities of Mumbai, and Kolkata fall between 401- 500 ranking. Hundreds of other big Indian universities and thousands of colleges that teach in English do not find any place in the ranking. Similarly the universities in Pakistan and Bangladesh that teach in English are excluded from the top 500 in the world.

*        Anglophone Malaysia and Philippines that had better academic and higher education standards than other East Asian countries in the fifties and sixties have fallen behind all the other native language countries and the gap is widening in each evaluation. Bandung Institute of Technology that teaches in BahasaIndonesia is ranked at 80 with engineering score of 50.5.But the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Techological University of Malaysia) that teaches in English in Malaysia is ranked at 236 with a score of 23.6.The situation in Philippines is alarming. It is unable to establish a world class university despite teaching in English for decades and has tragically become the poorest performer recently overtaken by Vietnam that teaches in Vietnamese language.

*      The most tragic part of the university system in colonial language countries is the exodus of bright students to native English speaking countries.

Indian universities mostly do not have any introductory videos and there is little effort to attract international students. Profile of the top ranked Indian universities and most prestigious colleges are given below. Indian premier institutes and universities are ranked lower than ordinary institutions in native language East Asian countries.           

China has started English medium classes in selected few universities for foreign students. It is not to supplant the Chinese medium of education. But to attract international students who are primarily from south Asia, and Africa.

           The universities in native language Asian countries are better in every way than English speaking Indian universities. Best of the educational institutions such as IITs and medical colleges such as AIIMS in the country of more than 1.2 billion people are poorer in quality than institutions that teach in small East Asian countries.

               Lower quality of Indian universities is reflected in the pathetic standard of Indian students and India based academics. Guides and guess papers are more rewarding than creative thinking. Hence quality of research output of Indian academics in every field is at the bottom of world ranking.
